One day
This is quite a sad song, all about feelings of hopelessness and despair to the point of considering ending it all.
I see a lonely man sitting out in a field with his knees pulled up to his chest in quiet contemplation.
This is the first song of the CD and sets the premise of the rest of the album about the journey of self discovery this man has to take to bring himself back from the brink of despair and destruction. This is his story from emptiness to fulfillment.
The Garden
This piece is our magnum opus. 20 minutes long, it goes through many different sections and tells the story of our ‘hero’ in ‘One Day’ as he aims to conquer his demons and get back to the right path that he once used to follow.
Beginning in ‘The Garden of Unearthly Delights’ it tells of the enticing pleasures of the flesh and the moral and spiritual bankruptcy that follows. Everyone has their own personal demons that they are at war with constantly and our hero is no different. It is an allegorical tale full of many sights and sounds, tastes and pleasures.
The Garden signifies the place, or home of the forbidden fruit present in all our lives that we know we shouldn’t partake of, but it tastes so good. Whether it be alcoholism, drug taking, gambling, the pleasures of the flesh or any of a thousand other vices.
The hero fights his inner demons (the dragon) ultimately conquering them and finding the path to peace, redemption and freedom of the soul.
Angeliqua
This song is about the ‘one that got away’. Mark came up with an idea where he had this experience like many people do in this world of seeing an old friend from the past and wondered what would be like if they were connected now It’s also a bit of a ghost story if you like.
Angeliqua is another worldly sort of character that leaves a spell over whomever she meets and then is gone…
Here I Am
This song came out of a piece of music that I wrote for the Motor Accident Commission. I liked it so much that I played it to Mark and he came up with the lyric idea which he wrote when he was in Hospital recovering from a throat operation, all of these emotions flooded his mind as he felt reborn again It’s a life cycle in a 3 minute song, almost moth-like in its simplicity and brevity.
It has a touch of regret. Some people live life and others only avoid death. I want to be a person who lives life and lives it to the fullest!
I Wish I Could Fly
This song is all about the experience of being that free that you feel like you are flying. Mark came to me with dream he had and wanted to put into words so he wrote down what he saw, from this became the platform of the song.
Not a care in the world, you soar to even greater heights than you thought possible. The melody and the orchestral intro were adapted from a piece that Sean wrote for the Botanical Gardens of Adelaide.
It’s also a song about being balanced and grounded. It’s no good having your head in the clouds constantly. It’s no good to never look up and see what’s out there either!
Inside The Power
This song is all about the freedom of riding the waves and being a part of the power that is the Ocean. The nature of the sea, its ferocity and man’s attempt to subdue and control it. It’s a story of a lone surfer who wants to catch that perfect wave.
Journey's friend
Our second epic opens the 2nd CD. It’s all about what lies beyond this mortal coil.
I started writing the lyric when a friend of mine passed away very suddenly. It got me questioning what happens to us when we die. The answer is that nobody really knows and all we have to go on is what our faith would have us believe. It deals with trust issues as well.
In a fallen world, it’s sometimes hard to trust that what some people say is the truth. Therefore we are left to either blindly trust or go through life wondering what the truth really is. This piece talks of the’ friend’ that is there to help us on this journey of life.
It portrays him as a protector, fellow traveler, unconditional ally and the only person we can rely on other than ourselves. We leave the listener to decide who this person might be.
Give And Take
If we all learnt to see things from other peoples point of view and stopped being so selfish, the world would be a much better place. Unforgiveness is the cause of many a problem that could be fixed if only we could learn to give the gift of forgiveness and accept it in return.
Bitterness takes root in people’s souls and it won’t allow them to move on from where they are to where they could be. Imagine, to quote Lennon, a world without war, religious and racial intolerance, divorce, hunger etc… That’s the world I want to live in!
When I'm Down
Mark wrote the lyrics about 4 years ago and had a great chorus/melody and wanted to try writing with Mathew Williams our brilliant guitarist, so the two went about the business of making a really well crafted song.
The song is about when things go wrong and how one can get a little down and how you reach out for someone to get the comfort you need.
This Life
A song about self awareness and treating the life that we’ve been given as a sacred gift. Using it in the best possible way, to help others and ourselves gain a greater understanding of why we’re here and what our purpose in life is.
The song originally written by Matt Coxhead and Mark way back in 1996, Sean was very keen to take the song to a new direction so we changed its dynamics and altered the lyrics slightly and have come with our first ever video.
Love Never Ends
The song is all about that special kind of ‘once in a lifetime’ love that two people can have for one another. It features the wonderful KiKI.
Sean was looking for something special to help celebrate his love to Amanda, So Matt arranged and wrote the melody idea to complement this wonderful peace.
Don't Give Up Love
Aahhhh….long distance relationships seldom work out. It’s always good to try though, because you never know.
